Responsibilities:
- Round-the-clock operation of three steam boilers, and associated systems.
- Maintenance and repair of all boiler plant systems.
Boiler information:
- Produce 80-psi steam
- Fuel, primary: Natural
- Fuel, back-up: #2 Fuel Oil
- Manned 24 hours
Campus steam loop information:
- Steam is generated at the Boiler Plant (just west of McKinney Center).
- Most campus buildings receive steam from the boiler plant, through piping in tunnels.
- Steam is used in most buildings to generate hot water for building heating.
- Steam is also used in most buildings to heat domestic hot water.
Annual maintenance shut-down:
Each May, following Spring commencement, the plant is shut down for four days for annual maintenance. During this time, steam is not available for heating or domestic hot water.
